Structural Investigation Backed by Monitoring Data
A structural investigation looks for the cause and extent of damage or deterioration in a building. Having recorded data from before and during an earthquake makes that investigation faster and better informed.
What is a structural investigation?
A structural investigation, also called a structural assessment, evaluates a building's condition after an earthquake, when cracks or other signs of distress appear, or before a change of use. In the Philippines it follows the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) and is carried out by licensed structural engineers and building officials.
How USHER supports an investigation
USHER supplies the sensor instrumentation and digital RVI tools for licensed structural engineers and building officials. It does not replace the engineer or act as a consulting service; it gives them recorded evidence to work from.
- Recorded acceleration data from the shaking your building actually experienced
- Warning logs and acceleration intensity measurements
- Rapid Visual Inspection (RVI) portal to organize post-earthquake inspection
- SHM reports with graphs that engineers and building officials can review
Frequently asked questions
What is a structural investigation?
A structural investigation is an engineering evaluation of a building's condition, used to find the cause and extent of damage or deterioration.
When is a structural investigation needed?
Typically after an earthquake or other damaging event, when cracks or settlement are noticed, or before a major change in use. A licensed structural engineer or the local building official can advise.
What is Rapid Visual Inspection (RVI)?
RVI is a quick, visual screening of a building's structural elements, such as columns, beams, and walls, used to prioritize which buildings need a detailed assessment. The USHER Portal includes an RVI module.
Can USHER data be used in an investigation?
Yes. The recorded acceleration data and SHM reports give investigating engineers a record of what the building experienced. Contact USHER to discuss your building.
